My name is Kajin Chunsa and I am a 21-year old hip-hop rapper, parody artist and R&B singer. I used to wonder why I couldn’t take the easy road like many of my neighborhood friends and become a child star or already be loaded, but after 21 years, I’ve come to the realization that it was my destiny to go this path. Without the experience that I’ve endured, the sights that I’ve seen and the sounds that I’ve heard, this would have never been possible. I could never become such an accomplished lyricist like I am today, and I am grateful for those terms.
My real name is Aaron Garback but I go by Kajin Chunsa as it is a title that has been with me since antiquity, entitled by my uncles. My stage name is “Lil Shady” but some people have partaken to the name “Kira” because of a song that I’ve toiled over writing perfectly for the last 3 years. I prefer everyone just call me Shady, easier to say. The way I got the stage name Lil Shady is from my friends and fellow students in college. I have been working at this dream since I was a mere 8-year old poet, and eventually, when I arrived in college, because of the way I dress, people asked me to write down some lines and show them my skills. Now, please respect the fact that I am not a freestyle artist; it’s so hard for me because although I can make freestyles in my head quite effortlessly, the problem lies within the fact that I can’t grab them and say them as fast as I would like to. Anyways, so I did, and a lot of people love Eminem in my state, mind you. So when I let out my first verse in college, people were flabbergasted at how well and fast I could write something. Over time, people began to say that I might be better than Eminem (but we all know that’s a lie, right?), and I accepted this praise feeling quite honored. So they called me “Lil Shady”. The “Lil” is to be a tribute to the actual rapper and “Shady” is for the alter-ego “Slim Shady”. I have kept my stage name on these terms ever since then.
My ideals are to pursue “the hood dream”; to rap and sing and become rich and famous and to have my name up in lights, but also not to pursue hip-hop the same way these other rappers who are killing the radio in the modern day are. Rap music, to me, has become a jaded and desensitized community for one-night standers, excessive lovers and other overly emotional gangsters and thugs. That’s not what hip-hop is about to me. Now, respect the fact that I can rap about anything, but I also loved the time when it was about gangs and gunshots (i.e.: “I’m So Hood”). I miss the real hip-hop, as it was to me. I’m willing to work my balls off and break my neck to make this and do some big things and make some big names and I am currently looking for my “Dr. Dre” and “50 Cent/G-Unit”, so to speak (see what I did there?).
Now, I know that I seem to talk too professionally to be able to rap seriously in the game, but that’s because I have 4 different modes of speaking. This is 1 of the 4. You see, I see this site as more of an interview for other rappers and producers to check down, so I’m keeping my best food forward.
Now, what did I mean by parody artist, you say? Well, the World of Warcraft (WoW), by Blizzard Entertainment, has become a huge franchise and pressed the attention of nearly 14 million people. I rap for WoW tracks as well. What I do is, I take instrumentals of other tracks and I sing and rap as a tribute to game I’ve been playing. It’s quite inspirational and helps you think quick. In any matter, I have written a huge collection for this. Now, it’s a business plan for me: There are 14 million people in the World of Warcraft, and about 75% of the audience is all interested in hip-hop/rap by one way or another (meaning by either WoW parodies or by the world of Hip-Hop, itself), and I figure that if I can make a bond with even 1% of that community, that’s a huge load of publicity and record sales. In my experience, when you connect with a WoW-playing individual, they want to grow with you and they want to evolve with you. If an artist can connect with 14,000 WoW fans by using their music for their benefit, then I believe that is a major plus.
I’m currently in college right now and I’m hustling the financial aid dollars as a C-average scholar. In December, it will be my first jackpot payout of 6 grand. I plan to buy my first car and all the recording equipment I need. I hope to debut some solidly-produced tracks by Christmas, if not earlier. I could use a few collaborating artists, a technical producer and a music producer, and if possible, a label. I decided that I will pay off my beats by percentage. You see, I don’t plan to keep much money, just what I deserve and grow beyond that. For example, a producer and me collaborate, and off of one song we make 500 grand, I would split that 50-50 wise with my producer. Instead of this pettiness of paying by the beat, I would like to do this professionally. As you can tell, it is a very golden aspect if my music producer was my technical producer in every way, and we can both be the visionaries. Money doesn’t mean much to me although it is nice to have. All I ever wanted was to be on the red carpet, name up in lights, performing in front of big audiences and a comfortable living.
I may be broke for the most part, but I really plan on doing it big. Real big. Making a moment in history which Eminem couldn’t even possibly comprehend. I’m not the conventional repulsive rapper (I noticed that most rappers are ugly), I’m quite pretty and was said to be able to pass off as 16-years old. I guess it’s a half-Asian thing. I’m very trustful, confident, passionate, complex and determined, and also looking to get into the studio as soon as possible. Hollywood won’t wait for me forever.
